Isaac's Story
The third of nine children, Isaac Umba Mbaya was born and schooled in the Congolese city of Likasi
At 15 Isaac’s father died so school fees were unaffordable and hard times followed.
Isaac trained as a bricklayer to help support himself and the family. One of his jobs was at a
church mission which Isaac then attended and
trained as a Deacon. Later Isaac married,
started a family and raised four children.
After 10 years Isaac’s wife died and he decided
to work as a missionary across the border in Zambia. The Pastors there were impressed & sent Isaac to Theology College in South Africa.
Father Isaac Umba Mbaya Ordained 6 years later, Isaac then returned to The and our late trustee Ray. Congo and took his Masters in Theology.
Subsequently Isaac found his calling: Helping vulnerable and orphaned children
Simultaneously Isaac spent several years running his own Theology school, training many Pastors. UK couple Tony and Pat Harris joined forces with Isaac in 2002 forming the Lily charity in 2003, which has been funding the orphans ever since.
There are always more orphans than Sponsors !
Isaac manages all of Lily’s affairs in The Congo, organising food supplies and school fees, ministering to the Lily community, taking sick children to hospital, keeping sponsors up-to-date with reports from the children, whatever needs to be done.
Independently of Lily, Isaac has
founded further churches in an
attempt to meet the needs of local
communities on both sides of the
border with Zambia.
Isaac is currently seeking
additional ministers to support
this work.
Isaac’s mantra is James 1:27, (KJV):
"To visit the fatherless and widows
in their affliction.
And to keep himself unspotted
from the world."
